UMI is a higher education establishment formed in 2005 on the initiative and on the basis of the shipping company JSC “Yugreftransflot”.

The main task of the institute is specialist training, in compliance with international standards, for marine transport, fishing fleet, and also for land-based establishments, which provide work of marine vessels. For these purposes highly-qualified teaching staff, including 9 Doctors of Science and 34 candidates of science, was formed in the UMI. Leading specialists of the shipping and fishing companies, greatly experienced deep-sea masters and chief engineers give lectures and practicals.

JSC “Yugreftransflot” is the biggest Ukrainian international transporter of the sea refrigerated cargoes. The Society has gold certificate of the French “Bureau VERITAS” by ISM Code and is certified for accordance with international quality standard ISO-9002.

Nowadays JSC “Yugreftransflot” is a holding with associated office in Cyprus, representative offices in Greece and Kiev. It’s a member of the international association of shipping companies “Alfa Reefer Transport” with the head office in Hamburg.

The main areas of the company’s activity are:

• transportation of refrigerated cargoes, edible and plant oil;
• control of transport vessels and ocean-going fishing fleet;
• technical management of vessels;
• fish processing.
